Starting in 2020, Blackwing has released a new edition of its Eras pencils annually to honor the brand's pencil heritage. The fifth edition of Eras is dedicated to the iconic Microtomic 603 pencil.
The Microtomic 603 pencil, introduced to the market in 1953, is a top model that can currently be considered a rarity (especially the one manufactured in Canada).
The history of the term "microtomic" dates back to the mid-20th century, when the world was fascinated by all things atomic, so the similarity to the word "atomic" is not coincidental. Microtomic referred to a special lead used in pencils at the time. It was characterized by high uniformity and greater smoothness compared to standard graphite.
This year's ERAS edition is a stylistic nod to the Microtomic 603 pencil, which featured a unique color known as twilight gray. Blackwing has gone to great lengths to ensure that the latest ERAS 2024 edition closely replicates the original. The dark blue barrel with silver printing and cap, complemented by a pink retractable eraser, uniquely showcases the retro design of the 1950s. The soft lead provides exceptional comfort while working.
