When it debuted in 2020, it quickly became a Midori fan favorite in Poland as well. It didn't last long on the shelves, so we didn't have time to get used to it, and we're constantly receiving messages asking when it would be back. What's so special about a regular notebook?
Thicker than the others
MD Paper notebook users appreciate their minimalism and variety of formats, but the limited number of pages sometimes turned from an advantage to a drawback – hence the idea for a notebook with a full page for one day. The MD Journal 1 Day 1 Page is not a calendar, however – it doesn't feature dates, a monthly calendar, or a yearly calendar. It consists solely of 368 pages, either plain or dotted.
Similar, and yet….
The cream-colored paper in the MD Journal 1 Day 1 Page notebook won't surprise us. Perfected over the years, it provides an aesthetically pleasing writing or drawing experience, allowing you to use a fountain pen without worrying about puncturing or fraying. Of course, you can also use pens, pencils, brush pens, or even markers with the Codex.

The Codex layout is exactly the same as the plain or dotted A5 MD notebooks. What makes the MD Journal 1 Day 1 Page unique is the inclusion of a space on each page where you can write the date or page number. In the plain version, this space is located at the bottom center of the page and takes the form of two lines, while in the dotted version, it appears as two thicker dots in the upper right corner of the page. These prints are so unobtrusive that you can skip adding them altogether.
Similarly to other MD notebooks, the Codex also includes index stickers with month numbers and personalization stickers (Idea and Diary).
… exceptional
For the first time, Midori has incorporated a completely exposed spine into its notebook, stitched with thread in a method known as codex binding. This method of binding ancient manuscripts allows the notebook to lie flat, preventing pages from falling out. Interestingly, if the notebook is stitched with dotted binding, you'll see pale green lines on the spine—the same color as the dots inside the notebook!

You won't find ribbons in the Codex – you mark where you've finished writing by tearing off a perforated corner of the page. It also lacks the additional waxed paper cover found in earlier notebooks. Because the MD Journal 1 Day 1 Page is significantly thicker than its predecessors, Midori created a dedicated silicone cover that protects the notebook from dirt and moisture.
Use
The MD Journal 1 Day 1 Page Codex gives us total freedom of use. On its 368 pages, we can keep a calendar, a diary, note important daily events, create drawings, sketches, jot down ideas, and add photos, stickers, and washi tape. The only limit is our imagination! This is perhaps the greatest advantage of this notebook – it offers endless possibilities and can stay with us for much longer than just a year!
