Wancher x Kuretake Kindai Maki-e Sakura no Sono invites you to take a moment with your notebook. The name of the pattern evokes a cherry blossom garden, a place associated with the Japanese spring and the fleeting beauty of blooming flowers. This is a different story than the single, drooping branches of the Shidare Zakura: here, the starting point is the atmosphere of the entire garden. The pen belongs to the Maki-e Monogatari series, which includes 18 designs inspired by Japanese culture, symbols, and folklore.

Kindai Maki-e and inspiration from nature

Wancher collaborates with Kuretake artisans on the decoration. The Kindai Maki-e technique allows the design to be applied to the surface of the pen, and a layer of transparent urushi lacquer provides additional protection. The series' aesthetic is also inspired by Rimpa, a Japanese artistic tradition that frequently utilizes motifs of flowers, trees, mountains, and animals.

A slim pen for everyday use

The barrel and cap are made of aluminum formed through stamping and metal drawing. The light, smooth silhouette with rounded ends sits comfortably in the hand, and the uniform surface of the barrel provides a canvas for the decoration. This product features a gold-plated steel nib with an iridium tip in size M.
