Volume 458 is a tribute to birdwatchers. Each graphite pencil features a gradient finish inspired by one of four North American species: the yellow-billed loon, the mallard duck, the green jay, and the black rail. The model number 458—referencing the estimated number of migratory bird species that regularly travel through the United States and Canada—is stamped on each pencil in black foil.

It starts with noticing one bird. It might be a familiar song from a nearby tree or a flash of vibrant feathers overhead. And then you start seeing them everywhere.
