Beautiful Letter Workbook - Italic
Italica exercise book by Ewa Landowska.
Below are a few words from the author:
The Beautiful Letter – Italic Workbook is based on the textbook of the same title. It is designed to fit a maximum of content into a minimum of space, so the workbook contains only the exercises themselves, without instructions. Instructions on how to practice are found in individual chapters of the textbook, and these chapters are marked with a page number at the top of the page beginning the chapter. Therefore, it is best to use the workbook in conjunction with the textbook.
Before you begin practicing, familiarize yourself with a given chapter, thoroughly reading the chapter's content and the tips on how to practice and what potential mistakes to avoid. Exercises usually involve repeating a specific element or letter.
Exercises usually begin with a clear, dark example, followed by two (sometimes three or one) lighter examples. These lighter examples are also useful: trace the letters along the lines to learn their exact shapes. If any of the exercises seem unclear to you, consult your textbook. You'll likely find instructions there.
You can read about how to select and prepare your tools (nib, ink) in the manual in the "Getting Started" chapter (p. 23). In the "Introductory Exercises" chapter (p. 110), you'll learn how to properly hold the nib holder so it draws lines the correct width for italics.
The model letters in this workbook are written with a 2.5 mm nib. Use the same nib width."
