Cherry bark that changes over time
The Wancher Sekai Kaba Zaiku Yamazakura is covered with natural wild mountain cherry bark. Its brown tone and unique pattern give each piece its own individual character. With daily use, the surface gradually develops a shine, so the pen changes with every page written.
Craftsmanship from Kakunodate
Kaba Zaiku is a cherry bark processing tradition that has been developed for around 200 years in Kakunodate, Akita Prefecture. For this model, Wancher collaborates with Yatsuyanagi artisans. Preparing the veneer involves scraping the bark, applying nikawa glue, shaping the material with heat, and final polishing. A technique known for tea containers and boxes has been applied here to the small surface of a pen.
A lightweight design for everyday notes
The cylindrical body with flat ends keeps the natural material at the forefront. The pen weighs 11 g without the cap and is equipped with a JoWo #6 F steel nib, suitable for fine lines. The cartridge-converter system allows you to choose between a convenient cartridge and ink from a bottle.

Natural differences between pieces
The pattern and shade of the bark may differ from those shown in the photos. A faint seam where the veneer is joined may be visible on the surface. This is a result of the traditional bark-wrapping technique and is not a crack or defect. Despite the name Kaba Zaiku, the material used is cherry bark, not birch.
